Sundance Institute received a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the Institute's work in feature film. Grant, which is part of the federal agency's second round of fiscal year 2011 grants totaling more than $88 million, specifically will go to the Sundance Institute's various filmmaking labs, as well as the Creative Producing Fellowship and Summit and Screenplay Reading series. Sundance Institute is one of 1,145 nonprofit national, regional, state and local orgs earmarked for NEA grants meant to advance "artistic excellence, creativity and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities." "The nonprofit Sundance Institute was founded by Robert Redford in 1981 with an initial grant from the NEA, and we rely heavily on these types of grants to sustain our work," said Sundance Institute exec director Keri Putnam. "At a time when funding for the arts is under constant siege, we are especially grateful for the NEA's recognition of our work worldwide." NEA additionally awarded in March a $30,000 grant to the Sundance Institute Theater Lab.
