TITLE: Assistant Professor in Economics.

POSITION LOCATION: Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, North Dakota State University, Fargo.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Tenure track, 80% teaching, 20% research, academic year appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop leadership in the department's teaching and research programs in economics. Teaching responsibilities will include principles and intermediate macroeconomics, as well as a senior- or graduate-level course in the candidate's field of expertise. The teaching load will include four to five courses per year depending upon the department's needs and the candidate's research and teaching interests. The successful candidate will be required to establish a high quality research program. Faculty evaluations in the department are based on effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; successful publication in leading disciplinary journals; active participation in professional activities; satisfactory service to the department, university, state, and profession; and successful pursuit of extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program.

SALARY AND RANK: The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level.

About the Department, the University, and the Region

The Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics has developed strong regional support for the excellence of its teaching, research, and outreach programs. The Department is composed of 17 tenure-track faculty, 2 research professors, and 13 lecturers and research or Extension specialists. Faculty in the Department are actively involved in interdisciplinary research and teaching, especially in collaboration with the Great Plains Institute of Food Safety, the School of Natural Resource Sciences, and the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute. The Department currently offers three undergraduate majors (Economics, Agricultural Economics, and Agribusiness) and two M.S. degrees (Agribusiness and Applied Economics and International Agribusiness). A Quantitative Economics track was recently added to the Economics major which encourages coursework in mathematics and statistics. The Department contributes to several interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs at North Dakota State University.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

1. an earned Ph.D. in economics by date of appointment;

2. expertise in methods necessary to conduct high-quality research;

3. effective oral communication skills;

4. effective written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. ability to publish research results in professional journals;

2. evidence of teaching effectiveness;

3. research interest in one or more of the following areas: macroeconomics, econometrics, financial economics, international economics;

4. ability to obtain extramural support for research activities.
