SeniorHousingNews tells MHProNews.com following the Great Depression about 25% of all households were multi-generational. That number fell to 12% during the 1980?s and climbed to 17% as people deal with the Great Recession. If that trend continues, the nation?s home builders may be develop more side-by-side houses, with one side better adapted for senior living. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) says the 55+ market represents the ?largest growing group of buyers? as they become empty-nesters and downsize, adding, multi-generational is the top trend for home building in 2012. Other trends include more functionality of space, energy efficient designs, and expanded amenities such as laundry facilities in the master bedroom walk-in closet.
