CLINTON ? The Clinton City Council is set to take a final vote on the proposed contract with the Clinton Humane Society during its Tuesday night meeting.
The Humane Society?s new contract calls for a $120,000 subsidy from the city, nearly double the $65,000 it currently receives.
After more than an hour and a half of discussion, City Council members forwarded the contract during the last committee of the whole meeting, but with a few caveats that will mean continued discussions regarding the Humane Society. ?
In addition to voting on the revised contract, council members will also vote to create a separate committee consisting of council member Julie Allesee, Police Chief Brian Guy, and Humane Society representatives Ed O'Neill, Sandi Bartels and Jessica Alvarez.
This committee will be established in order to investigate a proposal from O'Neill that he claims would save the city up to $35,000 for animal control services.
The council will also decide if it would like to pursue a third option: contracting with a local vet.
According to preliminary information, the vet would accept only animals from the city, not from citizens. These services would require a $40,000 subsidy. The council will vote on a resolution to pursue an agreement with the vet. ?
A public hearing will also be held concerning the third phase of the 19th Avenue North extension project. A number of residents attended a public meeting last week to raise concerns or ask questions about the project, which will require the acquisition of 40 properties, a majority of which will be temporary easements. ?
Following the public hearing, council members will take a vote on the property acquisition. ?
The council will vote on these items during its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
