How to Change the Carrier Logo On Your iPhone - No Jailbreak Required!
Most of you are probably familiar with a free jailbreak tweak called Zeppelin in Cydia. It allows you to set your carrier icon to basically anything you want. It?s a very popular tweak because of this, however a new Mac OS X-only tool allows you to change your carrier icon on any cellular iOS device without a jailbreak. It even works on the iPhone 5!
The tool is called CarrierEditor, and it?s made available for free by iOS developers uhelios and Pix3lDemon.
To get started, you will need the following items:
Step 1: Open the application you downloaded. You will see the interface below. Click on the Let's Get Started button:
Step 2: The application will ask you about your device. Head over to Settings > General > About on your iOS device to find the carrier version of your device. Enter the number that you see into the application and then click the Next button:
Step 3: Now the application will ask you to input the type of device and the carrier of that device. Choose the options that fit your device and then click on the Next button:
Step 4: Now the application will ask you for the new carrier logo you want to use. You can use any Zeppelin icons, make an icon for yourself in Adobe Photoshop, or you can use any of the icons that are supplied to you in the .dmg file for CarrierEditor. The application comes with a healthy amount of logos to choose from. Just drag and drop the icons into their correct place, paying attention to what one goes in the black status bar box and what one goes in the etched status bar box. Then click on the Compile Carrier Update (.ipcc) button:
Step 5: The freshly-compiled .ipcc file will appear on your desktop and the application will tell you that it's finished. Now click on the How to Install the Custom Carrier Update button:
Step 6: The application explains what you need to do to apply the new .ipcc file to your iOS device:
Step 7: With your iOS device plugged into your Mac, launch iTunes, then hold down the Option key and click on the Restore iPhone button. Once the window below appears, select the .ipcc file that you just made and then click on the Open button:
Step 8: When iTunes finishes loading the carrier update, reboot your iOS device and enjoy the custom carrier logo that you picked:
Performing this action does not restore your iOS device, even though you use the restore feature in iTunes to apply the carrier settings. The application is provided as is with no warranty implied, just like jailbreaking your device: Use the tool at your own risk!
The developer has no plans to create a Windows version of the application at this point in time. It is possible for Apple to patch this, so enjoy it while it lasts!
Note: CarrierEditor will place the original .ipcc file for your device?s carrier on your desktop along with the new one you create that contains the new logo. If you ever want to revert the changes so that your iOS device shows the carrier name instead of a logo, just follow Step 7 and Step 8 again, only this time pointing iTunes to the original .ipcc file instead of the new one.

Anyways, I'm Stark Contrast, or Starky as some people tend call me, and it took me two days despite suffering from a cold, to create this roleplay from mere ramblings on a notepad. @Plagiarism definitely not gonna try to edit that bit out right now since I'm on my IPod trying to keep everything together, although I really appreciate the advice, do you mean that I should just move all the face claims down? RpGateway has no spoiler button so it makes things much more inconveniencing for someone like me who likes to insert a variety of details in their roleplays, but also wants the info to look orderly and not so...clumped I guess.

Alun Morgan, 81, was evacuated to Wales during the Second World War but left 70 years ago.
During his time there he was surrounded by Welsh speakers but never learned the language himself.
He left the country aged 10 and lived his life in England and recently suffered a severe stroke.
But when Mr Morgan regained consciousness three weeks later, doctors discovered he was speaking Welsh and could not remember any English.
It is thought that the Welsh Mr Morgan heard as a boy had sunk in without him knowing and was unlocked after he suffered the stroke.
Mr Morgan, who is retired and lives with his wife Yvonne in Bathwick, Somerset, is now being taught to speak English again.
"I'd not lived in Wales since I was evacuated there during the war. Gradually the English words came back, but it wasn't easy,'' he said.
Mr Morgan had been watching the lunchtime news when his wife noticed he was not responsive and called an ambulance.
He was rushed into hospital where he spent three weeks being stabilised and assessed.
Doctors diagnosed Mr Morgan with aphasia, a form of brain damage which causes a shift in the brain's language centre.
He was helped by the Communication Support Service, run by the Stroke Association in Bath.
In 2012 grandmother Kay Russell, 49, of Bishop Cleeve in Gloucestershire, suffered a migraine and began speaking in a French accent.
Sarah Colwill, 35, of Plymouth, Devon, also suffered a migraine and began speaking with a Chinese accent.
Doctors say they suffered Foreign Accent Syndrome, a condition which damages the part of the brain that controls speech and word formation.
More than 150,000 people have a stroke every year in the UK, and a third end up with aphasia as a result.
Chris Clark, Stroke Association?s UK Director of Life After Stroke Services said:
?Stroke can have a big affect on individuals and lead to personality and physical changes. With a stroke, blood supply to the brain is cut off and in the areas starved of oxygen, brain cells die and damage can be caused.
?Aphasia is caused by damage to the areas of the brain responsible for language.
"As a result, individuals who were previously able to communicate through speaking, understanding, reading and writing become more limited in their ability to do so."

Getting married at 19 to a 17-year-old, both immature and from unstable homes ultimately ended in divorce. Now 27, a young man shares what his life experience has taught him and what we can all take from it.
Let me preface a little before talking about what I am looking for in a relationship and what I am looking for in a wife to be.
I got married at the age of nineteen to a girl who at the time was seventeen. We were very much in love and we had our ambitions set high to achieve great things together in life. However, since we both came from unstable homes, our motives and our value system was a little flawed. We were both looking to run away from our homes, run away from our problems and from our pasts. We were hoping to get a better future for ourselves. This is not a wrong thing, it is not a bad thing, but we were doing it all wrong.
Being immature and coming from the type of background we were coming from; it was very challenging to see the right path despite however much we tried.
Our relationship was starting to deteriorate even before we got married, but we thought to stick it through and get married non-the-less. Five years and three beautiful children later, we found ourselves separated. Less than a year later, divorced.
It has been two years now since my divorce. I believe it has come time for me to start looking for a new match. This time, however, it is VERY different. In the past two years, I have taken several online psychology classes, have taken therapy sessions and have explored many different avenues that all combined have helped me discover my true self, get over my past, and set myself straight for my future.
Today, I know exactly where I am headed. I am twenty-seven and I am more or less stable with my life. I am going back to school to finish off my degree in Commerce and Marketing; the government will pay for most of my schooling and there are various resources that are available to me that will assist me financially and physically. Therefore, going back to school will not affect my relationship life in any way. Once I complete my degree, I hope with the help of God to move to Los Angeles, which has been my dream town since I was a child. I have greater ambitions and dreams; I know that I am a great person, a great father and a great relationship partner. Today, in comparison to ten years ago, all is more feasible and reasonable. No one says you cannot dream, however one should know that there is a process to get to your end goal, and sometime it takes time, patience and perseverance.
With that being said, I know I am special, and I am looking for that special someone. Yes, ONE! My job is to find that needle in a haystack, that one in a million, that special someone who I want to give myself entirely with no expectations of anything in return; complete selflessness toward my life partner. I hope and pray that this time around it will be a long lasting and forever lasting long term loving relationship.
Let me elaborate.
In today?s society and with our social conditioning in our generation, we are taught that we are to marry a certain criteria and look for certain so-called values. I strongly and utterly believe that our belief system and value system is flawed and skewed by what is known as Modern Social Conditioning. These Social Conditioning tactics marketers are using via all sorts of media channels and outlets are in order to essentially hypnotize us to purchase the item they are selling.
The advertisers bombard us with over a thousand images and messages per second, up until the point that we no longer have mental control over what we are consuming mentally. Just take Facebook as a simple example. People have hundreds of ?friends? on Facebook. Who are these friends? What makes this person our ?friend?? We now have to go back to the fundamentals of what initially defines friendship. Therefore in today?s Modern Social Conditioning, we are forced to ask, ?What kind of ?friend? are you?? in which we are implying ?a ?Facebook Friend? or a ?Realistic Friend?? This is unfortunately the sad realistic truth of what we are exposed to in the twenty-first century.
Going back to relationships, in our modern Socially Conditioned religious communities. Girls are led to believe that if they were never married, they are to marry someone who was never married or has no kids. If you come from a certain financial or social class, you cannot marry someone from another class. If your family history brings you from a certain demographic in the world, you cannot marry someone from a different demographic due to illusionary stereotypical criteria set by I don?t know whom. Finally with all that being said, people are crying that there is some form of Shiduch Crisis! The only crisis, in my opinion, is that as religious and Hassidic Jews, we are conforming to society?s conditioning that is influenced by all the media that is out there.
I can go on and on about trying to prove my point; however I don?t find it necessary to waste precious Megabytes and each of our times. We all know (maybe too frightened to admit it) that this is pretty much the situation.
I would like to drive home a point and somewhat share what I am doing to look for my Shiduch. Maybe, just maybe, some may have the courage to look past their denial and learn from the examples I am about to share. If not, well, let?s just leave it at that...
(Note: Everyone is different with different situations and points of view, which we are all entitled to. However, I believe that we can all share our experiences and maybe pick up one or two things that resonate with us as individuals. I believe in the expression ?What is true, rings true?.)
Here?s what I did.
I wrote up a long list of ALL the things (values, criteria etc.) that I am looking for in a potential match. I also wrote a list of all my values and strengths/weaknesses I have (look at it as something similar to a SWOT Analysis just for relationships). My initial list has summed up to a total of something like forty-five characteristics. That is a long list.
I then took a new page, and drew a table. In this table I categorized certain characteristics that were similar one to another. For example (from my list): Adventurous, Free Spirited, Spontaneous, and Likes Trying New Things - all are essentially one characteristic. Another example is; Emotionally Stable, Good Values, Good Family, Large Family - pretty much all fall into the same category. Get the point?
Now finally in a third page I have two columns. One column is titled; ?Can Live Without? and the second titled; ?Cannot Live Without?. In which I will list six characteristics in each column. Therefore my columns look something like this:
Can Live without:
? Outgoing
? Easy going
? Professional
? Sense of Humor
? Intelligent
? Talented
Cannot Live without:
? Emotionally Stable
? Affectionate
? Achiever
? Spiritual
? Confident
? Healthy
If you can look at the first column, you would see some very important characteristics that I would love to have in a partner; however, they are not deal breakers. I really see them as bonuses. If you analyze my list you will also come to realize that the characteristics I have listed are very much intrinsic and on a deeper level. In other words: If I were to put in my list ?Good Looking? or ?Slim? or ?Attractive? it will show that I am shallow. Why? Because, how long will the looks last for? How long will s/he stay slim for? What is truly the real definition of ?attraction??
You see, I don?t put strong emphasis on these so-called and superficial characteristics, simply because they are not long-term characteristics. I am one-hundred-percent serious about getting into a relationship and getting married. I believe that I have my priorities straight. I am looking for someone who is as special as I am and has similar values as I do, because this time around I am looking for a longer term and long-ever-lasting relationship. If I were to look for those external and superficial characteristics, what will happen when they will expire? So will my relationship?
I would finally like to end off with some statistics from a study conducted by the University of Washington in 2011 on relationships. I found it quite interesting.
? Divorce rate in the US: 64%
? Those who are from divorced homes have a 74% chance of getting divorced. (Or not lasting in a long-term relationship)
? Amongst divorcees, 94% will get divorced a second time
? (Not from the study) Jewish Religious divorce rate in the US is around 17%
The study concluded, what can be derived from these numbers?
? We are all conditioned to be selfish in our relationships, we looking for something in return. That is not what relationships are about. It is one hundred percent about giving to the other without expecting or waiting for anything in return. If you cannot accept this, you might be better off marrying yourself, because only you can please yourself and get along with yourself.
? The reason why children of divorcees and broken homes have such a high percentage is because they had no role models on what a true and healthy relationship looks like. Therefore they will subconsciously relive and re-experience what they have been conditioned to at home.
? Finally, the reason why divorcees get divorce a second time. Is because they keep doing their mistakes over and over again. Like Albert Einstein?s definition to insanity ?Insanity is when one keeps trying over and over again the same exact thing, expecting different results each time?.
What is the answer to these issues? What is the solution to these problems?
? We need to go back to the basics and re-learn what are relationships and what it?s all about? What were our parents and grandparents doing right?
? Children from divorced homes should inquire and find out what were the real reasons of the divorce; if they cannot find it, let them make it up. But whatever the case is; they need to ask themselves, if they were in the same situations, how would they fix those problems? Once they find the answers, they should get to work and fix the problems. After they have rectified those issues, they should look for a mentor and/or a person that will show them an example of what a good relationship looks like. Whether it is a grandparent, sibling, uncle/aunt or friend. Whatever the case may be this person needs to look for examples of what healthy and good relationships look like. The child must mimic, learn, observe, ask and do whatever it takes. This is pretty much their only guarantee to a better or lower chance of divorce in their own relationship.
? People that got divorced once must take responsibility over their actions, their parts and their role in the failed relationship. They need to ask themselves three things. What was my part in all of this? What attracted me to my spouse in the first place? Why didn?t my relationship work? What needed to be done to save the marriage? Then the person needs to get to work on those things before they get into another relationship. Once again this will lower their risk of divorce significantly.

Netflix suffers Christmas Eve outage, points to Amazon
NEW YORK (Reuters) - An outage at one of Amazon's web service centers hit users of Netflix Inc.'s streaming video service on Christmas Eve and was not fully resolved until Christmas day, a spokesman for the movie rental company said on Tuesday.
The outage impacted Netflix subscribers across Canada, Latin America and the United States, and affected various devices that enable users to stream movies and television shows from home, Netflix spokesman Joris Evers said. Such devices range from gaming consoles such as Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 to Blu-ray players.
Evers said that the issue was the result of an outage at an Amazon Web Services' cloud computing center in Virginia, and started at about 12:30 p.m. PST (2030 GMT) on Monday and was fully restored Tuesday morning, although streaming was available for most users late on Monday.
"We are investigating exactly what happened and how it could have been prevented," Evers said.
"We are happy that people opening gifts of Netflix or Netflix capable devices can watch TV shows and movies and apologize for any inconvenience caused last night," he added.
An outage at Amazon Web Services, or AWS, knocked out such sites as Reddit and Foursquare in April of last year.
Amazon Web Services was not immediately available for comment. Evers, the Netflix spokesman, declined to comment on the company's contracts with Amazon.

Health care tax hikes for 2013 may be just a start
WASHINGTON (AP) ? New taxes are coming Jan. 1 to help finance President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. Most people may not notice. But they will pay attention if Congress decides to start taxing employer-sponsored health insurance, one option in play if lawmakers can ever agree on a budget deal to reduce federal deficits.
The tax hikes already on the books, taking effect in 2013, fall mainly on people who make lots of money and on the health care industry. But about half of Americans benefit from the tax-free status of employer health insurance. Workers pay no income or payroll taxes on what their employer contributes for health insurance, and in most cases on their own share of premiums as well.
It's the single biggest tax break the government allows, outstripping the mortgage interest deduction, the deduction for charitable giving and other better-known benefits. If the value of job-based health insurance were taxed like regular income, it would raise nearly $150 billion in 2013, according to congressional estimates. By comparison, wiping away the mortgage interest deduction would bring in only about $90 billion.
"If you are looking to raise revenue to pay for tax reform, that is the biggest pot of money of all," said Martin Sullivan, chief economist with Tax Analysts, a nonpartisan publisher of tax information.
It's hard to see how lawmakers can avoid touching health insurance if they want to eliminate loopholes and curtail deductions so as to raise revenue and lower tax rates. Congress probably wouldn't do away with the health care tax break, but limit it in some form. Such limits could be keyed to the cost of a particular health insurance plan, the income level of taxpayers or a combination.
Many economists think some kind of limit would be a good thing because it would force consumers to watch costs, and that could help keep health care spending in check. Obama's health law took a tentative step toward limits by imposing a tax on high-value health insurance plans. But that doesn't start until 2018.
Next spring will be three years since Congress passed the health care overhaul but, because of a long phase-in, many of the taxes to finance the plan are only now coming into effect. Medicare spending cuts that help pay for covering the uninsured have started to take effect, but they also are staggered. The law's main benefit, coverage for 30 million uninsured people, will take a little longer. It doesn't start until Jan. 1, 2014.
The biggest tax hike from the health care law has a bit of mystery to it. The legislation calls it a "Medicare contribution," but none of the revenue will go to the Medicare trust fund. Instead, it's funneled into the government's general fund, which does pay the lion's share of Medicare outpatient and prescription costs, but also covers most other things the government does.
The new tax is a 3.8 percent levy on investment income that applies to individuals making more than $200,000 or married couples above $250,000. Projected to raise $123 billion from 2013-2019, it comes on top of other taxes on investment income. While it does apply to profits from home sales, the vast majority of sellers will not have to worry since another law allows individuals to shield up to $250,000 in gains on their home from taxation. (Married couples can exclude up to $500,000 in home sale gains.)
Investors have already been taking steps to avoid the tax, selling assets this year before it takes effect. The impact of the investment tax will be compounded if Obama and Republicans can't stave off the automatic tax increases coming next year if there's no budget agreement.
High earners will face another new tax under the health care law Jan. 1. It's an additional Medicare payroll tax of 0.9 percent on wage income above $200,000 for an individual or $250,000 for couples. This one does go to the Medicare trust fund.
Donald Marron, director of the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, says the health care law's tax increases are medium-sized by historical standards. The center, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, provides in-depth analyses on tax issues.
They also foreshadow the current debate about raising taxes on people with high incomes. "These were an example of the president winning, and raising taxes on upper-income people," said Marron. "They are going to happen."
Other health care law tax increases taking effect Jan. 1:
? A 2.3 percent sales tax on medical devices used by hospitals and doctors. Industry is trying to delay or repeal the tax, saying it will lead to a loss of jobs. Several economists say manufacturers should be able to pass on most of the cost.
? A limit on the amount employees can contribute to tax-free flexible spending accounts for medical expenses. It's set at $2,500 for 2013, and indexed thereafter for inflation.

The home revenue system has surfaced once again also with the name Home Revenue Service. This scam just keeps changing it?s name and continues to cycle. This is the same deal as home cash profits?and several others that we?ve previously identified.
Basically you get an email that has a link to what looks like one of the big name news sites. The feature article is about someone making big money working from home. What are the doing it with? The ?home revenue system?. Or whichever name they are using for the exact same scam.
You have no need to look any further than the deceptive practice they utilize to promote the Home Revenue System. Whenever someone is deceiving you right up front then that is the basic definition of a scam.
Although there are many was to make money online there are probably many more that are just ways to take your money. When searching for ways to make money from home there are a few things to look at right away. First who owns the company? If you can?t find that out then that is a HUGE red flag. Second would be to look at where they are incorporated. Quite often you will find them off shore. This typically means they are avoiding the federal regulations and is a red flag but not definitely a show stopper. Most importantly there has to be a real product. Without product then it is either a ponzi or pyramid scheme.
So do some research and definitely pass to the home revenue system.

WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) ? The ex-con who lured firefighters to their deaths in a blaze of gunfire left a typewritten note saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and "do what I like doing best, killing people," police said Tuesday.
Police Chief Gerald Pickering said Tuesday that 62-year-old William Spengler, who served 17 years in prison for the 1980 hammer slaying of his grandmother, armed himself with a revolver, a shotgun and a semiautomatic rifle before he set his house afire to lure first responders into a death trap before dawn on Christmas Eve.
Two firefighters were shot dead and two others are hospitalized. Spengler killed himself as seven houses burned around him Monday on a narrow spit of land along Lake Ontario.
One of the weapons recovered was a .233-caliber semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle with flash suppression, the same make and caliber gun used in the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., Pickering said.
The chief said police believe the firefighters were hit with shots from the rifle given the distance but the investigation was incomplete.
The two- to three-page typewritten note left by Spengler didn't give a motive for the shootings, Pickering said. He declined to divulge the note's full content or say where it was found, but read one line from it: "I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people."
Pickering said authorities were still looking for Spengler's 67-year-old sister, Cheryl Spengler, who lived in the house with him. Their mother, Arline, also lived there until she died in October.
About 100 people attended an impromptu memorial vigil Monday evening in Webster, a suburb of Rochester. Dozens of bouquets were left at the fire station, along with a handwritten sign that said, "Thanks for protecting us. RIP."
Spengler fired at the four firefighters when they arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday to put out the fire, Pickering said. The first police officer who arrived chased the gunman and exchanged shots.
Authorities said Spengler hadn't done anything to bring himself to their attention since his parole. As a convicted felon, he wasn't allowed to possess weapons. Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said Spengler led a very quiet life after he got out of prison.
A friend said Spengler hated his sister. Roger Vercruysse lived next door to Spengler and recalled a man who doted on his mother, whose obituary suggested contributions to the West Webster Fire Department.
"He loved his mama to death," said Vercruysse, who last saw his friend about six months ago.
Vercruysse also said Spengler "couldn't stand his sister" and "stayed on one side of the house and she stayed on the other."
The West Webster Fire District learned of the fire after a report of a car and house on fire on Lake Road, on a narrow peninsula where Irondequoit Bay meets Lake Ontario, Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn said.
Emergency radio communications capture someone saying he "could see the muzzle flash coming at me" as Spengler carried out his ambush. The audio posted on the website RadioReference.com has someone reporting "firefighters are down" and saying "got to be rifle or shotgun - high powered ... semi or fully auto."
Two of the firefighters arrived on a fire engine and two in their own vehicles, Pickering said. After Spengler fired, one of the wounded men fled, but the other three couldn't because of flying gunfire.
The police officer who exchanged gunfire with Spengler "in all likelihood saved many lives," Pickering said.
A police armored vehicle was used to recover two men, and eventually it removed 33 people from nearby homes, the police chief said. The gunfire initially kept firefighters from battling the blazes.
The dead men were identified as police Lt. Michael Chiapperini, 43, the Webster Police Department's public information officer; and 19-year-old Tomasz Kaczowka, also a 911 dispatcher.
Pickering described Chiapperini as a "lifetime firefighter" with nearly 20 years in the department, and he called Kaczowka a "tremendous young man."
Kaczowka's brother, reached at the family home Monday night, said he didn't want to talk.
The two wounded firefighters, Joseph Hofstetter and Theodore Scardino, were in stable condition Tuesday at Strong Memorial Hospital, the chief said. Both were awake and alert and are expected to recover.
Hofstetter, also a full-timer with the Rochester Fire Department, was hit once in the pelvis, and the bullet lodged in his spine, authorities said. Scardino was hit in the chest and knee.
Cathy Bartlett was at a vigil Monday night with her teenage son, who was good friends with Kaczowka. Bartlett's husband, Mark Bartlett, has been a firefighter there for 25 years but missed the call this morning.
"Thank God my husband slept through the first alarm and didn't get up until the second one went off," she said.
The shooting and fires were in a neighborhood of seasonal and year-round homes set close together across the road from the lakeshore. The area is popular with recreational boaters but is normally quiet this time of year.
"We have very few calls for service in that location," Pickering said. "Webster is a tremendous community. We are a safe community, and to have a tragedy befall us like this is just horrendous."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the State Police and Office of Emergency Management were working with local authorities.
"Volunteer firefighters and police officers were injured and two were taken from us as they once again answered the call of duty," Cuomo said in a statement. "We as the community of New York mourn their loss as now two more families must spend the holidays without their loved ones."
Webster, a middle-class suburb, now is the scene of violence linked to house fires for two Decembers in a row.
Last Dec. 7, authorities say, a 15-year-old boy doused his home with gasoline and set it ablaze, killing his father and two brothers, 16 and 12. His mother and 13-year-old sister escaped with injuries. He is being prosecuted as an adult.
