Student-Produced Music Show to Air Live ? Madison County Courier

(Herkimer, NY ? Nov. 2012) ?Herkimer County Community College?s ?Play to the Camera,? a live, student-produced music program, will air on HCTV Channel 99 and WVHC 91.5 FM on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.

The program will feature the band, The Birdseed Bandits, comprised of former and current students in HCCC?s music industry A.S. program. Students majoring in Radio-Television Broadcasting, Digital Filmmaking, and Communications Arts: New Media will work as crew members operating studio cameras as well as the video switcher, graphics system, teleprompter, audio boards, and video server system.

This will be HCCC?s first production of ?Play to the Camera.? According to Radio-Television Broadcasting instructor, Douglas Flanagan, the goal is to produce at least two or three live episodes per semester featuring student bands associated with the Music Industry program. ?Play to the Camera? will provide students with hands-on experience in a variety of skills. ?It?s a good cross pollination of music and media at HCCC. It covers it all; live sound, pre-production, promotion, and performance,? said Music Industry assistant professor Jason Davis. The program will also be recorded to let students practice using editing systems and post-production skills.

A live studio audience will also be part of the telecast. Seating is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Audience seating will open at approximately 7:30pm in the TV studio, Technology Center room109.

HCTV is Time Warner?s Cable?s public access station serving Southern Herkimer County and can be viewed on Time Warner Cable Channel 99. WVHC 91.5 FM airs programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The station is best known for its jazz programming, the only of its kind in the Mohawk Valley. It also airs a mix of student-produced programs, athletic events, and other campus events.
