Food for thought? Like many women before her, pregnant Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry is planning to eat her placenta after giving birth to her second child this fall. She announced her decision on Twitter, telling fans she'd shelled out $200 to have her placenta turned into pills.
"Just paid for my placenta to be encapsulated!" she tweeted to her 792,000 followers. Then, by way of explanation, she added: "Every other mammal in the animal kingdom [eats] it."

As previously reported, the 21-year-old MTV alum is expecting her second child in November. She and her ex, Jo Rivera, welcomed son Isaac in January 2010; she has since moved on to husband Javi Marroquin, whom she married in January in a secret courthouse ceremony. (They had a bigger wedding with friends and family in September.)
Marroquin, who recently joined the Air Force, has been a supportive dad-to-be throughout Lowry's pregnancy and recently shared an ultrasound of their baby on Instagram. But he's not totally on board with placenta-eating -- yet. "Javi's iffy with it," Lowry tweeted. "He says he won't try it, but I think he will!"
Placenta pills -- in which a woman's placenta is cleaned, cooked, processed, and put into capsules to be ingested -- have been gaining popularity in recent years. The pills are said to have various health benefits; some say they may even help new moms suffering from postpartum depression.

Lowry's decision to take placenta pills after pregnancy puts her in good company. Girls Next Door alum Holly Madison, who welcomed daughter Rainbow in March, announced plans to eat her placenta in February. And Mad Men star January Jones credited the pills with helping her to recover quickly after the birth of her son Xander, now 2 years old.
